Viking Day
Lesson: History
Class: Year 5 Year: 2023 - 2024
The children enjoyed the visit from a ‘Viking’ as part of the History topic ‘Were the Vikings really vicious?’They learned how the Vikings were traders, raiders, crafters, farmers and settlers by participating in activities, listening to stories and asking questions.
This is what some of our pupils said:
“I liked when the Viking used flint and steel to make a fire! It smelt like forest and burning.”
“When we learnt how to take part in a Viking battle, we learnt the correct stance and we screamed as loud as possible.”
“We made our own clay pots and our own Viking games.”
“The Viking warrior told us about the different materials he had – he said they were carpets made of animal fur. We had to guess which animal it was from.”
“We listened to a story about how if enemies were coming, the Vikings would blow a horn. He blew the horn in class and it was so loud!”
“Did you know that Vikings don’t have horns on their helmets? We learnt that.”
“When Vikings are travelling on their longships, they put their shields on the side because when they are rowing it stops their arms from getting shot. The boats also have a dragon head on to scare people away.”
